If only people will be more aware on how littering affects the environment then UK will be a much cleaner place. We on Belfast Skips have the same advocacy. That is why we try to limit waste delivered to dumpsters and recycle them as much as possible. It just didn’t seem practical to do anything else to start with (though of course people used to manage and still do in many countries). I can recommend Moltex disposables if you’ve not already come across them – more than 50% biodegradable. However I have to say the Environment Agency's LCA study of disposables versus re-usables is misleading due to the washing/drying assumptions. Anyone committed enough about the environment to use re-usables would know to line-dry whenever possible, wash them in as full a load as possible, and pass them on to a second child (or indeed use secondhand ones to start with). If you do that their global warming impact alone is less than half that of disposables (and that still includes an unnecessary pre-wash cycle! EA 2008 report). P.S. When you get to potty training I can recommend the Becopotty (biodegradable and made from bamboo waste and rice husks!) I feel I should make it clear to you and others reading this that the LCA studies on nappies demonstrated (certainly to my satisfaction) that disposable nappies are at least as good as, and probably better than, reusable ones. Certain campaigners may try to send you on an eco-guilt trip for using disposable nappies, but those nappies really are better for the environment. And with the advent of nappy recycling plants (see http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2011/sep/12/nappy-recycling-plant, for example), you can rest assured you're doing the right thing.
